Explained: works series "Roots"

To get a new impulse to my work, I needed distance to the abstract acrylic painting which I practiced in recent years. With this series of works I went back to the roots of my inspiration and to the roots of me being an creating artist.

The roots of my ideas
I´ve always been curious about the unpredictable and unknown - interactions, reactions, the dynamic within and the traces that are left. It is an inexaustible source of inspiration.

The roots of my visualisation
The first materials I used to create works that I labeled "art" were paper and ink. I resurrected these materials and fused it with the controlled fortuity and decisive randomness of my abstract works.

The roots of existence
The four elements are represented by colours:
Blue and Red representing AIR/Space, meaning the stardust we all are created of.
Blue and Green representing WATER, where life on earth started.
Black and White representing SOIL, which feeds life on earth.
Yellow representing FIRE, the energy for the initial life creating impact.

The roots of appearance
I blew liquid ink over the paper. White space is left out. I consciously placed the initial portion of liquid, controlled the direction and speed of flow but left most of the "creating" to chance.

The grained structure of the organic forms repeatedly appear in nature. Maybe that is the reason why the works instantly address everyone, either through fascination or denial.

All works are 70 x 50 cm, ink on paper.

Outdoor exibition TölzKunst3

Last Sunday, 17th of July 2016, the third #ArtGardening, an outdoor art exibition named #TölzKunst3, organised by the #KunstvereinTölzerland, took place in the beautiful surrounding of the floodplains of the river Isar in Bad Tölz.

Local artists, including me, took the chance to present, explain and sell their works to the masses of people randomly passing by on their Sunday walk.

I showed my newest painting series named "Roots / Wurzeln", 15 ink works on paper. Beneath of that, on my booth the passersby could make themselves a print of my pre-cut postcard lino plates. A lot of people participated and, as most of them haven´t done lino-printing since school days, I gave assistance. It was great fun for all!

Me having a little break during a long day of lino printing and art talk.
One of the prints created on TölzKunst3

It was a great day, filled with art, talk and lino-printing. I´ll be surely presenting my new works there next year again!

The next day there were several articles about this event in local newspapers, one of them even featuring me.

Regional food and regional arts

If you prefer regional products and visit the area around Bad Tölz, I have a recommondation for you.

In the beautiful landscape between Königsdorf and Bad Heilbrunn you can find a small hamlet named Brandl. It simply consists of a huge farm on the top of a hill, run by a young couple of dedicated farmers.

That wouldn´t be very special at all, if they would not run a "Hofladen", a farm shop, where they sell their own products: top quality food like meat and sausages from their own butchery, home made cheese, their own eggs and home baked bread.

Here is their website: www.thomahof-brandl.de, where you can find more information about their products.

In addition to their great food, they offer hampers (packed with herbs, liquors and hearty snacks) and other kinds of regional hand crafted products like knitwear and - now comes the part (beyond the food) that excites me - my watercolour illustrations from the series "Hausberge 2015".

Directly in the shop you can buy the original illustrations (with passepartout, for 45,- € each) or a set of postcards (including all images and a locator map, for 15,- €). Both do great as christmas presents!

The opening hours are Friday, 9:00 to 19:00 and Saturday from 8:00 to 14:00.

A stop at the Thomahof in Brandl is well spent time (especially if you are with kids): you can see animals (chicken, pigs, cow, deer, goose and ducks) doing their animal things in their compounds, you can have a walk around the farm area and enjoy the beautiful mountain view or you have a peek into the farm owned bakery, dairy or butchery and taste the great products.

The farmers and their staff are happy to welcome you in their farm shop with a warm and hearty atmosphere.

Halloween special: scary, grumpy and eerie portraits from my current sketchbook

As not every day is made for creating outstanding #artwork, strange looking #portraits appear here and there between the top-class results in my current subway #sketchbook.

Usually these works don´t get a lot of attention. But today is different. Today is #Halloween!

So here is my homage to Halloween: #scary, grumpy and eerie faces of #people drawn in the #Munich #Subway.

Illustration Series 'Hausberge'

My recent illustration series named 'Hausberge' is finished.

Hausberg is the German word for a local mountain.

In December 2014 I moved to the countryside south of Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a beautiful scenery here, close to the place where Barack Obama recently had a Bavarian breakfast during the G7 Summit 2015.

In the last six months I have been eagerly breathing the beauty of the mountains, absorbing nature during the change of seasons and drawing my way through the small villages, viewpoints and sites of this area to explore my new home.

By now the results of this effort is a series of 10 beautiful motives of Upper Bavarians nature, culture and distinctive views.

All motives have been illustrated four times. In addition of the four original illustrations, all motives are available as a set of postcards in a limited edition of 500.

You can buy all works as originals or postcard set on my booth with the number 82 on the #Kräuterzauber festival in #BadHeilbrunn on Saturday, 20th June 10:00 am to 20:00 pm.
